Varsity soccer in HS?

Next year I'll be in tenth grade and I want to deffinately make the varsity team. The only teams in our school are Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Theres no freshman team but that doesn't matter since I won't be a freshman. I have a year to train and I'm going to soccer camp next summer. What are some GREAT tips that I can practice within a year? How much can I improve? And what do people who want to be on varsity need that people making junior varsity need to improve on (speed, agility, moves etc)?

1. I would work on ball skills the most. Try and do dribbling drills in and around cones or similar while keeping the ball under control. Keeping the ball under control is the key here. When you can control the ball you can be a step ahead of the game if you are comfortable on the ball.
Also try and play tennis against a wall with the soccer ball. It would be great if the wall was uneven so you can adapt to the ball coming back at you at different angles.
These are simple control drills you can do at home.
If you want to to do some running drills then do some laps around a pitch/field and mix it up by incorparating some sprints into these laps.
Also set up some cones 10 yards apart in a straight line and do sprints to the 1st and back and sprint to the 3nd and back. Make sure that when you sprint back that you are turning quickly to improve your cutting moves on the field.

Hope these help and good luck.
