What to add on to your resume?
People always say you can add on anything to your resume. I agree. i want to put the "extra" stuff in like that I attended a program called Urban Teacher Academy, or that I help out every summer I can with youth soccer camps, or that I even helped out doing stuff at a key club in my high school? Should I even mention that. I'm 20 and am just looking for ANY kind of job, but help on the resume.

1. Yes, mention all of those activities and more. Employers like to see that you are well-rounded, energetic and involved with the community.
2. Yes, do include all of that information on your resume because it shows that you are an active leader in your community. Employers like to see that you are well rounded and can handle many different responsibilities and are dedicated to your jobs. Create a section on your resume titled Activities and Achievements and then list all of your volunteer placements under this section. Also, if you ever were on the Honor Roll or Dean's List at your High School or College, list that here. If you were given any kind of awards, or if you organized any fund raisers that should be listed in this section as well.
3. i disagree. employers are busy and most dont have the time to go through every single resume that lands on their desk. myself, i skim through the hundreds of resumes i get each year just looking for the one that stands out. my advice:- be abrupt and to the point. we dont want to hear about your babysitting experience when you were 16. only put work experience that is relevant to the job you are applying for.
e.g. Legal Secretary - Experience as a swimming instructor is not relevant to this post. I've actually had a resume with this exact association. Unless you can show how your experience as a swimming instructor provided you with skills necessary to be a legal secretary, dont put it.
also dont tell your potential employer that you just want a job...any job. you have to let them believe you really want THAT job. tell them why you want that job and why you want to work for them. you should put the Urban Teacher Academy because that can show that you gained relevant skills and training that can be an asset in many other fields. however, leave out the "stuff" you helped out with at high school. its not relevant and not necessary. the soccer camps should be listed under "hobbies" or "interests" not job experience.
also you are 20 so i dont think an employer would expect you to have a lot of experience anyhow. dont try to pad your resume.
4. It's all about the organization of your resume. Volunteering can go under something like "Relevant Experience" (since "Employment" is misleading) and anything that isn't traditional education can go under a heading called "Relevant Training" or make the heading "Education and Training."
